The City of Salzburg, whose old town enjoys UNESCO World Heritage status, never fails to impress with its mix of history, romantic lanes, beautiful palaces and museums. Tradition and modernity are woven together, and impressively incorporated into the surrounding Alpine landscape.
The City of Salzburg produced a number of important sights and personalities even before its charter in 1804. Salzburg natives Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Herbert von Karajan, in particular thanks to the Salzburg Festival, have made arguably the greatest contributions to Salzburg becoming a Mecca for culture fans. But even outside the festival season with over 4,000 events, there is plenty to discover in the picturesque old town.
